Butterfly Festival

Saturday, June 22 @ 12:00 pm 3:00 pm

Free, family-friendly, drop-in event!

Join us in the meadow to learn about the amazing diversity of butterflies that can be found in London! Dr. Nusha Keyghobadi and students from her Western University lab will teach you how to catch butterflies with a net, gently observe them up close, and release them back into the wild. You’ll also get the opportunity to plant some native flowers that support these important pollinators. On your way in/out of the meadow, play some nature bingo and make native wildflower seed balls to attract butterflies to your yard at home. All ages are welcome!

What You Need to Know

Transportation: We will provide bus tickets at the event to help cover the costs of transportation. View the closest bus routes here.

Parking: We recommend parking north of the nature reserve on Norlan Ave and walking south across the Meadowlily Footbridge to get to Meadowlily Nature Preserve. Parking is available on Meadowlily Rd S, but with the ongoing construction there are a lot of extra obstacles to be mindful of.

Washrooms: There are no washroom facilities at this site, so please plan accordingly.

Apparel: Wear appropriate footwear (closed-toed shoes) such as hiking shoes or boots, rubber boots, or other sturdy and/or waterproof shoes. Also, wear light coloured clothing, a hat, and tuck your pants into your socks.

Conditions: You may encounter uneven and wet terrain.

Safety: You may encounter ticks at this nature reserve. Be sure to check for ticks before leaving the site and once you get home. More info on ticks is available here.

Please stay home if you are feeling unwell.
