Wild Birds Unlimited at Gibbons Park

Dear local nature enthusiast,

We welcome you to embrace winter and all its beauty with a Guided Nature Walk at Gibbons Park.

This gem is right in the heart of the city with some incredible old willow trees and a family of owls too. You will learn new things and the experience is sure to have a positive effect on both your physical and mental health! Space is limited see below for details and registration.

• Join us for this wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded nature lovers and immerse yourself in our natural, urban surroundings
• Embrace the late winter season by immersing yourself in the beauty of nature
• Enjoy winter birds and learn about animal and bird tracking in the snow (or mud)
• Learn plant and animal IDs specific to the season
• Keep active and get fresh air to boost your immune system
• Connect with like-minded people
• Understand why environmental conservation and urban park spaces are more critical than ever
• No experience is necessary as our walk is geared to all levels (adults and teens 16 years and up).

Your guides, Leigh Shand and Jeff Lee, will lead you on a journey to experience nature in a whole new way. You will not only learn to identify different species of birds, plants and animals by sight and sound but also ways to observe them simply for the joy and presence that they offer.

Leigh is a nature lover and trained naturalist who thrives on exploring all the beautiful outdoor spaces in London and the surrounding area. She is also an experienced Wellness Coach, and recently completed Fanshawe College’s Adventure Expeditions and Interpretive Leadership Program.

Jeff is an exceptional birder and has a background in biology with a degree from Brock University. He has been working at Wild Birds Unlimited for the past six years, has been the store manager since 2021, and loves to get out in nature whenever he can.

Date: Saturday, February 24^th, 2024
Time: 10:00-11:15 am (please arrive 10 mins early to sign a waiver and meet your guides; we’ll send more details closer to the walk date)
Place: Gibbons Park (exact location to be provided upon registration)
Theme: This walk is geared to adults and children over 16 years of age
Walk difficulty: Easy – flat, easy route even in snow/mud, with lovely views of trees, water and fields.
Donation: While there is no charge for this event, the walk will raise funds for Green Economy London – a local non-profit that offers a practical approach for businesses that want to create a more sustainable future for their business, employees, and community (suggestion donation is $20 per person, all donations are appreciated).
