Christmas Bird Count 2024

Saturday, December 14 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

Once again Nature London’s Pete Read is the compiler for Nature London’s Christmas Bird Count (CBC).

He submits the data to the international Audubon Organization through Birds Canada.  The London Count has been undertaken since 1909.

There is more information and a Count Circle map on their website. https://www.birdscanada.org/bird-science/christmas-bird-count

Participants can tally numbers of birds of each species at their feeders if the location is within the count circle. The map for the London CBC circle is https://naturecounts.ca/apps/cbc/maps/ONLO.pdf

Participants can also take part in a walking or driving field route. Many routes were established long ago, but new participants can be added to those routes if they need new members for their team or can be placed on a new route if it can be created in an area not already covered by other routes.

It is an all-day event  but participants can spend as much time as needed to complete a route or as desired if watching their feeders.

Since this is an official count, new participants must get in touch with the compiler to register their feeders or to take part in the field.

Winter Birding is fun and this is a way to enjoy Birding and also help with an ongoing scientific program geared to establishing conservation of birds.
